It is a well known fact that I love ignorant souther rap (not all souther rap is ignorant … but I do have affinity for the ignorant variant … especially chopped & screwed). While on the plane heading to Atlanta (business trip) I rediscovered one of my old favorite albums … Webbie – Savage Life (Chopped & Screwed).

Webbie
When this CD first came out … I was significantly less “refined” and I recalled one of my verses on the whole album … from “I Got That”
I f*ck a bitch till she real tired and
I aint f*ckin wit her less she real fine
I gotta lot money I aint gotta lie
play me on dat funny style n***a gotta die
why u spit dat nut out b*tch apologize
its real deal pimp shit bitch recognize
b***h say get her some shoes then I reply all u get is a big dick dat circumsized
All the bold lines are crazy … but lets look at that last one again … “[chic] say get her some shoes … then I reply … all u get is a big dick … [that's] circumsized”
WOW …
Sad thing … I hate to admit it … but when that line came out … I thought it was the hottest one liner I had heard in years. I had never heard anyone so eloquently (yeah … that’s eloquent!) express their utter disgust in being asked by a woman to buy random stuff for her (I think it’s safe to assume this isn’t the love of his life … prolly his “Gutta B****”).
Also, it effectively summed up (although in an extreme way though) the feelings of me and my fellow male coleagues (my roomate to this day … a fellow EBP … still quotes that line) at the time. Buying the shoes would be simping … and that wasn’t tolerated.
Hearing it again made me reminisce to my younger days (lol … like I’ve really changed) and I just had to share this as …
SBM present’s … a great moment in ignorance
And I leave you with the song in it’s entirety.

Lol …l and don’t be coming at me all mad and sh*t … I didn’t write the lyric … I can just appreciate good ignrance. My Hood Rat will be all over it …

You ain't never lied about that being ignorant music. LOL… but I can't even hate 'cause I was sucked in by the lamest, most disrespectful music back in the day…. 504 Boys, "I Can Tell," to Webbie, "Give Me That." Now, listening to that stuff gives me the chills…. I've moved up to grown stuff.
@Nicki: Don't forget wobble wobble … "ooohhh … shake it shake it"
Yeah, I can't lie I do love the ignorant southern music, for example anything Three 6 Mafia. I do know there time and place for listening but when I'm in the car by myself, I go dumb. Guilty Pleasure I guess.
-JM
@SBM; "Nicki: Don’t forget wobble wobble … “ooohhh … shake it shake it”"
Ya man.. that too.. gosh I'm so embarrased. LOL
@JMcfly: did you say "go dumb?" I'm cracking up…. I've gotta admit, I do love some Three 6.
alas I cannot concur. I don't do dirty south music. the carter 3 is the first dirty south ( if he falls into that category) that I purchased. Ever ever ever….
I enjoy my share of ignorance, but Webbie is beyond my limit. Webbie cannot exist in the same mental space that I have devoted to Lupe and Common. *shudder*TI "Swing Ya Rag" can tho. *shrug*
I couldn't fathom askin a ninja to buy me some shoes. Now, if you wanna offer….but still nothing is for nothing.
The beat is hot…but im mad at him right now real mad. Can lady get a little respect a little Tom Jones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvmyTZEqlo8
I dont listen to this type of stuff nor do I really regard it as a true genre. much like the women like many of todays women, it lacks any real content. we are pulling more out of it as educated black people than is really in there.
I bet you us as Fine black men and our sistas help, can fill up a bunch of pages on this topic but this numbnuts perhaps only took 30 secconds to write the line "jus cuz it sountted kewl shun!!!"
I hate this ignorance, and NO I cant even stand it some of the time.
as to the line however. Hell I have said this for the longest time. I am rather shocked women, and especially BLACK women as rich as they all are, expect us to buy them things. we are notorious for our low wages much less our inability to sustain employment… and somehow we are supposed to waste money on someone who dosent have the same problem!?!?
thats about as stupid as loaning money to a country with a surplus while your in an economic crisis.
Check out this site….very interesting concept:

They analyze the education level you need to listen to certain artists/songs. Example: Rakim's "Microphone Fiend" requires a university degree. They haven't done Webbie, but I'd wager that it falls somewhere near the early elementary level….
Good Morning Folks!
*stops to smell the roses* ahhhhh
Bruh, I'm gonna need you to edit the spelling of "moment" – that is all.
"SBM present’s … a great moment in ignorance"
SBM, this is a top 10 moment of ignorance at that.
"I hate this ignorance, and NO I cant even stand it some of the time."
Hasani, I agree with that statement.
Starting with the way he sounds, the things he says and then the way he looks (bleh) – what woman in her right mind would even want to sleep with Webbie? And the song doesn't allude to her response which may have been – Have you looked at you? I should be asking for a house.
I swear, please find some taste in music, ASAP!
Wow…what did I say that was so bad?
I don't get how you listen to this. I have my guilty pleasures but damn man. I wrote rhymes that basic back in the 4th grade.
Oh yeah to all of you that listened to TRU, C-BO, Gangsta Pat, No-Limit records, Terrible West Coast Hip-hop, Mase and all the Shiny Suit music WELCOME to the current state of mainstream Hip-Hop that you supported.
My track was the 36 Mafia Joint "Slob on my knob". Now this track is ignorant "Don't have to ask, don't have to beg"
I listen to the ignant stuff, but only if it's tough and tolerable. 3-6 gets a pass. Chopped and screwed is tight when it's the right song and right DJ cutting it up.
I would be hypocrite to say that I'm too grown to listen to that music. Every now and again, I've got to hear some MC Eiht.
SBM:
If you can, find the OG Ron C mix called Southern's Finest where he chops up "In Love with My Money."
"what woman in her right mind would even want to sleep with Webbie?"
Umm ya because Ive never met a black woman who gets hot for a tall black alpha male with lots of money…… nope… never in my life… never read on the internet about sistas loving a guy wit money either, and especially classy high society types here……….
come now…..
ok so I was thinking about education level and music and was like, lets evaluate.
So my favorite song is Vide Cor Meum…. yes I know Im a black male, long story about why its my favorite and it has to do with bandcamp so we will skip that story so I wont sound like a geek.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiMwDagGOek&fe…
anyways, its in latin. so if you listen to it, its a very swaying and highly haunting "operatic aria". So you would say to yourself… man I like this latin aria, it sounds so melodic… I must be sophisticated and the person who wrote this must be highly educated like ME!!!!!!!
then you delv into the words. at first, if you just go by the song title "vide cor meum" its "see my heart.. beautiful right?
'
ya so the song is basiclly if you go into the song, dude is singing about "I am your master" so "eat my heart" I figured there had to be more meaning behind such a beautiful song. but alas, the more you read up on it, the more you find out its pure ignorance. It was based off a poem that a dude wrote while he was high. so money basicaly had a bad trip and dreamed he ran into a chick he had a crush on bask when they was both shorties around the way. he has no game so he didnt speak to her and then drempt she came before him and tore his heart from his stomach and ate it in front of him…..
so when he runs into the chick again he freaks out.
ya.. pure ignorance of writing about a bad trip…. but you would never know it because its written in a dead language and kinda catchy harmony. but it was conceived the same way this southern drivel was…. blunted up.
Damn @ HNIC's song…there are a few songs like that, where the artist wrote it in a way to make it seem deep and meaningful but their actual meaning was much more ignorant/violent/crazy.
syntax error on the sonnet. callin bullshyt at the Met opera house.
i really just realized how annoying you people are (not 100 percent of you but most)
ill
I hate bougie, stuck up, holier than thou art people, people that say doin that is beneath me and you aren't intelligent if you dont do what I do and blah blah blah…
ill
I love dirty south music
I love funky a$$ed music like webbie, gucci man, yola the great, etc
plus I love maxwell
and I love classical music as well and international
so what
people used to say james brown was ignorant music
yall are so wack to me (again not 100 percent of yall)
but thats also my opinion, just like yall opinion of "ignorant" music
*is it really ignorant ….nope..its how a lot of men feel, experience and its just what be happening….if they want to write a song about it..so what…everyone has a hustle.*
at Peyso
Slob on my knob..like corn on the cob…check in with me…
Thats my joint
lol
"i really just realized how annoying you people are"
i elove you too true LOL.
buy me some shoes
women actually think their stuff has monetary value
@CPT: Man … I already wrote a post on "N love with my money" with the Chamillionaire's verse from youtube.
http://www.singleblackmale.org/2008/04/30/in-love…
Man … I thought I was the only one who knew that song.
@True: Damn … LOL.
Well … I'm 50% bougie as hell … so I can't talk. I just like the balance. I walk around in a suit with an arrogant stride heading to work to be overpaid … and ride home in my tinted car with the subs pushing "Let's call the boys … lets run a train"
All about balance … LMAO
Why is it so many people have issues with ignorant music. I mean … I got Kanye in the ipod … I got Lupe in the car … but why can't you just appreciate music with lyrics that have no educational or insightful value … they just make your body move and your head nod …
I've always told my friend … but music is not one medium I look to for meaningful expression or intellectual stimulation. I got books, movies, CNN, and conversation amongst friends for that.
I'm with you on number 28 SBM
seriously..why does everything have to have meaning..lol
and shoot…urban music has meaning..it means a lot to the people who can relate
OMG..people can relate to that "ignorant" music
yes..yes they can…
its the part of America that no one wants to admit exists..the "grimey" side..
besides..there is NOTHING like a deep based beat…shoot..I love it
and sex..I love a song that talks about sex
My fave is the freakin you remix…always will be …
Stuck up people…. True hates me and comeback.
guess true can get in line with all 4 people on the internet who cant stand comeback girl and all … hmmm 2,300 people who read my articale and various blog and forum post that cant stand my haughty truthful tongue either
Ignorant music is just that…. ignorant. It dosent really sway move or creat anything, its hardly an artform. there is a reason it wont win a grammy or cross over.
Even a harddened thug can come up for the phillharmonic when they are doing vivaldi 4 seasons and say…. yo thats music!
I wonder who is more repulsed by ignorant southern go go stuff. white people who have no clue what it is, or suburban negros like myself who can understand wtf they are saying, which makes it even worse.
SBM @ #27
first..there is no such thing as being OVERPAID..I dont care what you do or how much you make, where you are from..no such thing as being OVERPAID..eff that..lol..
No more heroes: ya some wanna be deep shit eh? ya cant deny the power that the songs "melody" contains. its the actual notes that get you… not just the womans voice. u can play that on a casio keyboard and it sounds just as haunting. BRILLIANCE, was the music creation…. stoned ignorance was the creation of the lyrics.
but wanna go a step further? the creater of the lyrics was NOT the guy who did the music. Much like today, you had someone crazy write lyrics for 2 people with a great voice and the whole thing was put together with a beat composed by a producer.
so that song was pretty much ODB gettin stoned and havin a wake n bake to write crazy lyrics about his dream…. and passing the lyrics to Chris Brown who has nate dog singing the hook… and the whole thing is tied together with a Baby Face Edmonds soundtrack.
oh and please do not compare "country go go" music to "URBAN" music….. theres a reason why the south is country… because … well… its the country.
I like Webbie. It is what it is. Sue me.
Off topic,
I know one member from the fam lives in Covington and there is some sort of blog contest going on in Cincinnati. Visit
aroundthenati.com for details.
Back to the ignorance.
@Humble
…I'm a day late and all but "Mase and all the Shiny Suit music " – leave Mase alone!!! No wack rapper ever came out of Harlem (well New York really) and I will stand on a soap box and say that. I don't care what ya'll think.
I hate that Webbie's "Gimmie that" is one of my favorite songs from college, but it is. And I still sing every word when I hear it.
I love and support Chris always!
Chris Brown likes to watch too much stuff on youtube. His favorite show on youtube is the "Stupid Mario Brothers"
