Rantings of an SBM

Slim Jackson

  • This week went by pretty quickly all things considered. Got to work from home for the first time since taking my current job a little bit over a year ago. I now realized that my job definitely doesn’t need to be done from the office. I got more work done in a few hours at home then in a whole day sitting at my desk. I may have to be “sick” again soon.
  • I signed up for a new gym membership after visiting like 6 different ones. I felt like I was shopping for a car or apartment. I couldn’t justify paying 60/month for a gym that didn’t even have everything I needed and/or wanted in terms of training equipment. Long and behold, I found one with a basketball court, huge free weight area, and a good amount of cardio machines for 25/month for 6 months near my job. It’s time to get back on the wagon. 630am workouts here I come! (Sugar Free Redbull here I come).
  • Since my birthday, I’ve become a lot more concerned about my health and the conditions/ailments that lurk on each side of my family. I need to start taking better care of myself. My eating habits right now are awful. I need a dietary makeover. I’m not trying to be diabetic or have high blood pressure in my 20′s. Not sure how to break my love/hate relationship with french fries and burgers yet though. So tasty.
  • Having someone in your life who understands your goals/motivations/how you tick is crucial. As much as I like to be to myself, it’s still nice to have that support system.
  • This weekend will be good. Have an exquisite one folks!

Mr. FAQs

  • Sometime I wonder what happens in your house when your not there? That’s weird of me right?
  • I’m tired of people trippin over these AIG bonuses…let your job (if your lucky enough to have one) give out bonuses and see how many mofo’s reject them….n***a please!
  • I started some magazine subscriptions and they have finally started coming in this week. To bad a already read one before I got it. Anybody remember “Highlights” I usta love that joint!
  • I finally got through a mountain of mail that I was to lazy to file and destroy as needed. When I was a kid, couldn’t wait to check the mail even though I wasn’t getting anything. Now I check it in relation to how depressed I want to be.
  • I REALLY want and need to go to DC and Houston. Like bad. Need to make it happen. Some how. And soon.
  • Had a nice week. Friends were in town again – boys from undergrad years, friends from middle school, an old fling. Was good to see them. Funny how you don’t see someone for years but it seems like only a few months. Week was pretty quick and uneventful otherwise, but in a good way.
  • Deep conversations with my line brother always seem to encourage me, make me want more and better for myself which in turn leads me to act. He def knows what to say to get me hype and motivated again!
  • So I’m ending the week on a high note and in good spirits. At least until something or someone pisses me off. Maybe I should go to bed right now haha. Be safe and easy fam.

  • Uh … I don’t know what to say. Ummm …
  • My Best Friend from since the 4th grade is now working and living in the DC area for the first time in about 7 years.  The only problem is that he doesn’t realize I’m old and tired nowadays.  I want to go out … I really do … but them bones be tired.  I just want to lay in the bed, then get up and either read or work on something of notability … like this blog.
  • So i broke down an ordered an Amazon Kindle 2. I wanted one since the day they had a press release announcing it, but its heft $360 price tag kept me at bay.  For those who don’t know, its an ebook reader. Instead of having books on paper, it uses this new revolutionary e-ink display to show you digital books.  It’s been pretty good so far … but if I’m not feeling the value soon its going right back (30 day return policy!).
  • I still find myself struggling with the thought that I haven’t accomplished enough with my life vs. the fact that everyone tells me I’ve done a lot. I try not to spend a whole lot of time thinking about it, but sometimes it does get to me.
  • In the process of planning a trip to Chicago, Vegas, and Bike Week.  Maybe getting away and enjoying life a little more will help out the “have I met my goals” thought process.
  • I got a roommate about a month ago.  It’s … interesting.  I don’t mind it too much … but I kinda miss living by myself and being able to do “stuff” wherever in my house I felt like.  Aww well …
  • I think I have a problem with black people.  I mean … not all black people and not in all contexts … but when it comes to trying new things.  I’m tired of having to explain why eating raw fish is OK and why it’s proper to order a steak medium rare and enjoy the pink inside (*I hate that that made me giggle*).  *sigh* … my people.

We done … RANT!

    Yo.
    Glad your comments are working…

  2. Reign says:

@ Slim: It took me three months to get over a french fry craving and the burgers were easy… someone told me that red meat takes an average of 7-9 days to fully digest. That was enough for me knowing that food was lurking that long in my body! ewww.
@ Faqs: I'm the same way about my mail, only check it twice a month or when I know money is coming.
@ SBM: Well you're just going to have a problem with me on steak, I need it well done. Madd cow is all I have to say.

    Hmmm…. let's see…

    1. Finally booked my flight for my San Diego and LA trip… I am soooo excited to get away… now I need to find a cute rental car :-) .
    2. I'm still working on my site but it's a slow go because my focus keeps changing onto other things. So many things I want to do right now when I need to focus on one. Anyways, I have to kinda start over on the site… need to teach myself more css and xhtml.
    3. Me and dude are in a funk. Mostly because he went to Atlanta last weekend and hasn't really said anything about it *side eye* and he's back to being is overly busy self. *sigh*
    4. Meanwhile I'm lonely and need some coddling. Yes he has spoiled me with attention which makes these times kinda sour.

  3. Good Mornin Everyone!

    My rants/randoms:

My week has been super long and I'm glad it's the weekend…well almost.
    1. I came back to work this week after a 5 day not so vacation(I was sick as hell the whole time).
    2. My work day seems to get longer and longer as each passing day…must be because there's no traffic (Work for a cell phone company).
    3. Had to cut a friend loose without him knowing that I'm actually not going to be his friend anymore. He's been abusing his friend priviledges and so if he wants my friendship he's got to earn it back!
    4.It snowed last night….need I say more!
    5. And finally today me and my homegirls are going on a 4 hour roadtrip up to Eli MN…Anybody wanna come!!!! :)
    Everybody have a GREAT weekend.

  5. CPT Callamity says:

    @ Reign
Hate to tell you but well done doesn't kill Mad Cow (because apparently the Prion Proteins responsible can live through anything).
That was your geek tidbit for today..

    1. I got a "date" tonite…should be fun…

    2. I'm about to go practice my at work Houdini act in which I will find the perfect place to take a 20 minute power nap. Don't get mad ya'll aren't as crafty as me.

    3. I thought about getting one of those kindles, but if I'm going to pay that much for "an electronic book reader" I might as well get an Asus or MSI Netbook that is about the same size, has USB ports and Windows XP preloaded for about $299.

  6. Cheekie says:

@Slim – Also got the diabeetus and high blood in my family. I can fend off burgers, but french fries are my Achilles Heel. Gotta step my game up both on the diet and excercise front.

@FAQs – "Sometime I wonder what happens in your house when your not there? That’s weird of me right?" HA! Maybe your toys come alive and talk to each other a la Toy Story. But, they're not the same "kind" of toys anymore. Okay, yeah, and now "Woody" just took on a whole new meaning. Traumatized. Disclaimer: Not saying you would have those types of toys, my mind just went somewhere else…bye.

@SBM – "I still find myself struggling with the thought that I haven’t accomplished enough with my life vs. the fact that everyone tells me I’ve done a lot. I try not to spend a whole lot of time thinking about it, but sometimes it does get to me." I can definitely relate to this!

    My rants:

    - I'm consiering getting a bob with bangs soon. Kinda like Rihanna's style, but more like Jennifer Hudson's when she had it. I really liked her. It's finna be spring and I need a change. Besides, I never did anything that drastic with my hair before. I'm feeling more confident now I guess.

    - Um, did I hear SNOW this weekend? No, I didn't.

    - I want some more art in my place. And I want to paint…need some color in my life.

    Have a great weekend, ya'll.

    @cheekie: GO for it!

  8. @Slim, Gym Memberships are gettin that serious. Trying to find the right one can be so complex. I finally got one after months of searching then stopped goin 3 months in. I work out for free now runnin at a track and doing cardio and strength training in the crib.
@Mr. FAQs, I think it is weird of you to wonder what happens in di crib when your not there. The main reason is because I sometimes wonder the SAME thing and I am definitely an Eccentric Old Lady in Training. And I also am enlightened and buoyed after a conversation with my LS. Consider yourself blessed
@SBM, My roommate has a Kindle and swears by it!! I'm old school I need to feel the paper beneath my finger. Whats the fun in reading if you arent having to fight to turn the pages? Also give it a couple months… if you loved living alone the way I loved living alone.. interesting isn't the only word that'll come to mind when describing your situation.

    Rant:
-I'm a reformed serial dater who decided to take a 6month from dating break and I am THIS close to gnawing on my arms. I feel like a crack-head in rehab oy vey…

  9. Cheekie says:

@Nicki – I'm getting more and more convinced that I should! I might shoot for this weekend. I'll post a pic on the profile if and when I get it done.

  10. Jasmine says:

Week has been long, tiring, draining and DRAWN OUT!!

Glad that it’s over, glad that Spring Break is next week and I don’t have to work.

Glad that in T-5 hours I am MIA bound!!

    Miami here I come!

    Have a great weekend all!

  11. 1. My Mizzou Tigers are playing with house money and winning, and that normally doesn’t happen to us. Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPPWnHoyUic&feature=player_embedded

    2. More steam, readers and ideas on the blog. It’s providing me with some good inspiration.

    3. Somehow, it’s about to snow in Kansas City at the end of March. But our weather is so fickle that I’m not surprised.

    4. The 15 Reasons to Hate Beyonce (she’s fine, but I’m not a fan) rant on Clutchmagonline.com. She needs to be scoped on this blog the way T.I. was earlier this week. I’d be curious to see how that turns out.

    TMCY out.

  12. Hostess says:

I recently ran into a guy I went out with once last year. I had to think hard about why I never returned his calls. He told me he only eats burgers and wasn't willing to eat seafood or anything 'strange'. I ran into him recently. He boasted that he has gotten into fish. *sigh* Jesus wept!

  13. Reign says:

@ CPT: Lol well da*n! Still can't stomach pink beef, doesn't seem right. Thanks for the geek tidbit, I like all things geek.

  14. Raqi says:

    Rant:

This week I have had crazy encounters with countless number of bums (the really stinky and drunken kind)

    1. On Monday, I gave a bum $1. "God bless you." she said. As I walked away, she yelled at me "only $4 more to go… selfishness gets you nowhere!"
    2. On Tuesday, on my way back from lunch, I was hit on by a 50+ old very stinky homeless man. I thought to myself, "I've apparently failed at something…."
    3. On Wednesday, while wearing a suit and stilettos, another incredibly funky man with three teeth smiles and says "I find you really attractive, would you be interested in a guy like me?" "I feel like this conversation is incredibly inappropriate SIR…" I blurt. He replies "Well, can I have a dollar?"
    4. Thursday is spent wonder why I, age 23, keep getting hit on by 100 year old filthy drunks…
    5. It just happened again, moments before I posted this- This time he was 60+… Maybe it isn't me… Perhaps my recent streak with stinky bums has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with the fact that I work across the street from a Cottage Grove liquor store… (Cottage Grove Ref. See: Wesley Willis, Common, Urge Overkill… )
