Please Read: Updates and Changes at Single Black Male

Last week we solicited your opinions on how we could make Single Black Male Dot Org better, more enjoyable, exquisite, delightful, etc. First off, we want to say thanks to everybody that contributed. The feedback was beyond helpful. As a result, we’re implementing several changes; some of which were already in the works before the post last Friday.

Moving forward, I’ll be running Single Black Male Dot Org with the help of Streetz, Dr. J, RCLS, and the original SBM himself. For those that think I duct-taped the founder of this elaborate operation, put him in the trunk of a used automobile, and pushed it into the Hudson River before putting my name on the corner office door and impersonating him on posts, that’s false. He’s very much alive and will continue to write and help ensure that our house is in order. It just so happens that he has plans to take over the world one tech device at a time, which isn’t possible when you’re also running a sex and relationship blog.

One of my biggest goals moving forward will be enhancing the Single Black Male Dot Org brand. When people think of this site, I want it to be associated with words and phrases like positivity, honesty, interesting discussions, consistency, entertaining, and diversity of male perspective. People shouldn’t leave the site daily feeling like they watched For Colored Girls, Precious, and The Happening back to back to back. And with that said, this doesn’t mean it’ll be cushy lovey dovey posts everyday. That’s nice in theory, but that’s not real life. We want to make sure we stay real and relatable.

I also want to focus on developing and engaging the SBM community. For the number of people reading daily, the percentage of folks contributing to the discussion and helping get the word out about us isn’t where we’d like it to be. We want more people to share their opinions daily. We want folks to be as proud of this site as a dude that can legitimately call himself a Magnum Man. We’ve got some work to do.

And with that said, let’s get into the other “large” changes for the site.

Staff Changes

We’d like to welcome The Most Interesting Man in the World and WisdomIsMisery to the regular staff. T.M.I.M.I.T.W has been an insightful commenter for months as a married man with a well-respected opinion on many of the issues we discuss daily. A lot of you may remember his co-post with Dr. J on being married vs. being a husband. W.I.M is a long-time guest poster and commenter, and has been helping us out with promotion of content on Twitter. We’re excited to have him join the team on a consistent basis. W.I.M and T.M.I.M.I.T.W. will be alternating on Fridays.

Post Schedule

In an effort to accomodate our lives away from the keyboard and create a more effective and consistent week of goodness, we’ve changed our posting schedule as follows:

Monday: Slim Jackson
Tuesday: Dr. J
Wednesday: Streetz
Thursday: SBM/RCLS Alternate
Friday: Most/Wisdom Alternate

Guest Posts

Folks interested in guest posting should contact us at submissions@singleblackmale.org. Please note that a submission does not automatically mean the post is going up on the site in any particular time frame or at all. We reserve the right to be like #cmonson.

Social Media

We’ve launched a new account for the site on Twitter at @SBMDotOrg. Make sure you follow us to stay up to date on posts and discussions happening on Twitter. We’ll also be doing giveaways (Not D unless…) and other fun stuff from this account. We’re also increasing our interaction with readers on Facebook. Join us there as well.

I also want folks to know that almost all of us are on Twitter individually. You can add @slimjackson, @DrJayJack, @Streetztalk, @singleblackmale, @WisdomIsMisery, and @MrSpradley. If you like a post of ours or wanna debate away from the blog, Twitter is a great way to reach the author.

Well, that about sums it up for now. We’re excited about what’s to come. Pause. Thanks for rocking with us in the current and into the future. It’s going to be a truly fantastic voyage.

Bawsefully Yours,

  2. Christina says:

I’m looking forward to these goals and changes being put into fruition. Congratulations to Slim for being the new forefront of SBM. In addition, congratulations to The Most Interesting Man in the World and WisdomIsMisery. That’s a nice gig for the New Year! I’m kind of pissed off that I won’t be able to participate in the give aways. I love contests and I have the best luck/winning streak when it comes to them.

To all future winners of those give aways:

    I flippin’ hate your guts!!!

  3. Adonis says:

Congrats… and keep it honest, constructive & uplifting

Contrats to MOST for joing the roster…I will be looking forward to your insight…and of course, I will continue to be a presence here on the regular….much love my brothas! :-)

  7. Eddie Brock says:

    Congrats and sh*t!

But for real, can Streetz do like a Fitness Corner segment once every few posts? He seems pretty knowlegeable about diet/exercise/nutrition and his posts are a welcome respite from the usual "Niggaz Ain't Sh*t/Why Black Women Suck/Why Can't I Find A Man threads….

  8. Tellylonglegs says:

"People shouldn’t leave the site daily feeling like they watched For Colored Girls, Precious, and The Happening back to back to back. "

The thought of this is quite scary so thanks for thinking of us.

Looking forward to the changes even though I think this site is great as is.

  9. Kema says:

I look forward to post from Most!

  10. Beef Bacon says:

I look forward to the changes guys! Keep up the great work and TGIF!

    Bravo MOST!

  11. RedLady821 says:

Congrats to Most and WIM, glad that you're both joining the SBM site as regular posters.

If someone wants to send a submission to the site, will there be feedback as to whether or not it will be used or would we just get a tweet that says #cmonson?

  12. Max says:

I think it's great that you guys are making moves that will make SBM greater than it already is.

  13. BP says:

Slim, you are a busy man. You need to change your name to Super Slim or something. Most is getting on board? Yeah boy! I love his writing. I am excited for all of the changes to come….including WIM posting as well. He is hilarious. I love SBM.org and look forward to it doing big things. *Does SBM cheer with high kick*

  14. Yay, congrats to The Most Interesting Man in the World!! He's wise and sh*t. WisdomIsMisery is a d@mn fool on twitter. I love it, good combo. Maybe I'll get brave and submit a post to ya'll. Brave being the keyword. lol Great changes! Can ya'll do video blogs and a question box/formspring for SBM?

  15. Briiz says:

I love this place already. I look forward to the coming changes and new additions. I don't have a twitter, but gosh you're so good with the peer pressure.

    Good Work!

  16. Tiffany In Houston says:

I used to be a regular commenter way back when SBM was running the site singlehandedly and then I kind of fell off. I am married now and don't feel I have much to contribute. But with the addition of Most, maybe I'll come out of lurker status, erry now and again.

Congrats Slim! Keep rising to the top! :) Welcome to all the new staff members!

  17. sanen85 says:

Is this an appropriate time for a slow clap? No?

In that case, congrats to WiM and Most. I'm excited to read both of your posts.

  18. Hugh Jazz says:

Just when I was getting used to the SBM/Slim/Streetz/Dr. J rotation.

And I didn't think you put SBM in a trunk and drove it in the river, I think you guys did it to RCLS.

  19. Thanks for the well wishes above, happy to be a part of the team. I have two notes to make: 1) If you happen to read my Twitter timeline from last night, all I can say is "It wasn't my fault, peer pressure!" "I'm sorry" and, "pray for me" 2) I have two posts already submitted in the SBM queue awaiting scheduling so to Slim's point about diversity GOING FORWARD I'll try to bring a wider scope of subject matter to the community. Remember, WIM love the kids and black women and black women with or without kids.

  20. Dr. J says:

Congrats to WIM and Most on their SBM chain. Welcome to SBM Nation.

  21. What's good folks. I'm excited to be part of the team. Shout out to Streetz for Donnie Walsh-ing the situation and bringing me on board.

Looking forward to bringing my 'formerly single but now married' perspective to what is already a dope cipher.

Thanks to those of you who've expressed excitement about me joining the team – it's really, really encouraging.

And shout out to the SBM vets – Dr. Jay, Streetz, Slim, SBM and RCLS as well as the homey Wis.

  22. Streetz says:

Congrats to MOST and WIM! Big things are ahead for this site.

Congrats and big thanks to Max, NC17, LA Blades, and everyone else who's contributed posts here (and still have some heat left in the SBM arsenal). Please continue to support all of them in their efforts.

@Eddie – Great idea! Maybe we might could get somethin poppin. We'll see…

Remember everyone, we're a site for the people! So feel free to email all us, tweet us, n sh*! We be listenin!

    My grammar is so immaculate

  23. Briiz says:

    Good Work!

  24. Starita34 says:

Congrats to SBM on world domination. *cheers* to being open to feedback and a willingness to improve.

  25. NaijaSweetz says:

lol, I remember when I grudgingly had to admit to myself that TMIMITW is a rather interesting man after all (I'm usually skeptical of such self-administered titles). I'm looking forward to his posts. Congrats to both him & WIM.

As for the rest, like I said, I'm pleased that you all are paying attention to your commenters and taking relatively swift action based on their feedback. I suppose I should finally put my twitter account to good use.

  26. Congrats on making moves….looking forward to the changes!!

  27. NiaNeek says:

This is great. I'm loving the turnaround…
